Leading others without formal authority

"Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
Muriel Strode

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with knowledge about effective “sandwich leadership”, that is, leading others without having formal authority. The training is specifically set in the academic context and tailored to tackle typical leadership challenges in a “sandwich position”. Using latest research, you will learn about effective influence tactics and negotiation tools that will help you in leading others without formal authority.

Your take away

  • You will learn about different bases of power besides status and authority.
  • You will get to know effective influence tactics that are not based on formal power.
  • You will practice your negotiation skills.
  • You will discuss typical challenges of being in a sandwich position and how to deal with them effectively.

Backed with theoretical input, we will guide you to use the newly gained knowledge in typical work situations. Together with the instructor, you will develop specific strategies for developing and shaping collaborations with your supervisor, team members, and colleagues.
